Application was made to the Colonial Government on the subject of the contribution of the Colony to the cost of defence. It was clearly intimated that the large contribution of £115,000 for this purpose would not be exceeded. It would cover all liabilities of the Colony in regard to the proposed scheme of defence.
Sir Henry Holland earnestly trusts that the Imperial Government will not insist on the Colony paying the cost of transport to Hong Kong. That would be a heavy sum which is, perhaps, one that the Legislature would formally comment on.
